Ethereum / ETH
ETHEREUM STAKING.
Explore the roles behind ETH staking: who supplies the asset, who runs the validator, and who has the authority to exit.
Begin with responsibilities
Ethereum staking involves validators participating in consensus. Supplying ETH and operating the required software can be separate roles. Before evaluating a service, describe the role you would perform and the responsibilities another party would take on.
Solo operation requires at least 32 ETH to activate a validator. That minimum is a participation requirement, not an estimate of total operating costs or a guarantee of rewards. The full Ethereum staking guide explains current balance rules and the differences between operating, hiring an operator, and using a pool.
Four routes, different trade-offs
Solo operation
You take responsibility for the validator environment and key setup. Monitoring, maintenance, and safe recovery are part of the decision.
Staking as a service
An operator runs the infrastructure. Examine signing-key access, withdrawal control, fees, and how you can initiate an exit.
Pooled participation
The arrangement combines contributions and adds its own contracts or operating structure. Read how ownership and rewards are represented.
Custodial access
A custodian manages the position. Your ability to access assets depends on its controls and terms as well as protocol mechanics.
Track signing and withdrawal control separately
Running validator software and controlling the destination of withdrawn ETH are different powers. A statement such as “you keep your keys” needs a more specific explanation: which keys, what can they authorize, and what happens if the operator is unavailable?
Ask for a clear description of the withdrawal address, exit process, backup procedure, and recovery steps. Test your understanding using documentation before committing an amount. Our validator selection guide provides a structure for recording those answers.
Understand queues and additional layers
A validator exit, a service withdrawal, and a sale of a liquid staking token are different actions. Do not assume a quoted withdrawal time covers every stage. A pool or service can also have rules that apply after the underlying validator process.
If your route issues a token, follow the liquid staking overview. If it proposes restaking or another application on top, identify the extra conditions and dependencies separately. The Ethereum network’s baseline rules do not explain every product built around ETH.
Read the protocol documentation
Use Ethereum’s official withdrawal documentation to verify current mechanics. Pair it with the specific provider’s terms and the risk overview before making a comparison.
