SOLANA DELEGATION.

Understand stake accounts, the validator you select, and the path from delegation to a spendable SOL balance.

Understand native delegation

Native Solana staking uses stake accounts delegated to validators. Delegation adds to an operator’s stake weight; it does not, by itself, transfer ownership of the tokens to that validator. Account permissions still deserve careful attention.

A wallet can present this process as a short sequence of screens. Look through the interface to the accounts and instructions underneath. The complete Solana delegation guide explains what to verify at each stage.

Know the account’s authorities

A stake account has separate roles for managing stake and authorizing withdrawals. The practical question is whether the account created by your chosen workflow has the authorities you intended. Confirm the account address and controlling authorities using a trusted interface.

Write down where you will check the account later. Keep enough context to recognize the validator and the position without recording any private key or recovery phrase in those notes. If the interface asks you to transfer authority to someone else, pause and understand that change before signing.

Evaluate the validator

  • Identity: Match the validator’s actual onchain identity to its published operator information.
  • Performance: Consider operating history and missed participation rather than a single snapshot.
  • Commission: Understand the fee, its basis, and how you would notice a change.
  • Concentration: Consider shared infrastructure and operators when reviewing more than one validator.

The validator selection article turns these questions into a fuller evaluation. A familiar name or a low fee should be the beginning of your review, not its conclusion.

Distinguish account states

Activation and deactivation occur through epoch-based transitions. A submitted instruction is not the same as a completed state change. Check the account’s status before assuming it is fully active or fully available for withdrawal.

Plan the sequence before you need the tokens. Verify the withdrawal destination and keep appropriate transaction-fee funds available in the controlling wallet. For a general explanation of waiting periods and claim steps, read the unstaking guide.

Check network-specific risk rules

Do not import another chain’s penalty rules into a Solana decision. Solana’s public staking guide says slashing is not automatic. Review the official Solana staking guide and current network guidance for your exact arrangement. Token-price risk, key loss, service risk, and exit delays still require attention.
